The first ever single pot still Green Spot Chateau Irish whiskey finished in Bordeaux casks! The choice of Bordeaux wine is also significant – Ch. Léoville Barton is not only a highly-regarded grand cru Château, but one that takes it’s name from the Irish ‘Wine Geese’ winemaker Thomas Barton. In fact, Léoville Barton is still run by his descendants to this day. This bottling is a celebration of shared Irish heritage.

Matured initially in a mixture of ex-Oloroso Sherry, fresh American oak and ex-bourbon barrels, this Green Spot whiskey is then finished in the ex-Château Léoville Barton Bordeaux wine casks for 12 to 24 months.

A special edition of Green Spot Chateau, this was aged initially in a combination of bourbon- and oloroso-sherry casks before being finished for up to two years in barriques from famed Bordeaux winery Château Léoville Barton. A sweet blend of orchard fruit and spicy flavours.

Spot whiskeys originated in Dublin in the 1800s, Mitchel & Sons gained a reputation for producing the finest single pot still whiskeys, marking casks with coloured dots to signify aging potential.

This is the first release in the Spot Whiskey ‘Wine Geese’ series, a name inspired by the Wild Geese soldiers who left Ireland to fight in Europe during the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. It is also inspired by the story of ‘wine goose’ Thomas Barton, an Irish man also known as ‘French Tom,’ who left Ireland to establish wineries in France in the 18th century.

Léoville Barton in Saint-Julien, Bordeaux is one of those wineries, and after initial aging in a traditional mix of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry barrels, this whiskey additionally rests between 12 – 24 months in casks once used to age this wine.
