Monkey Shoulder Blended Scotch Whisky

Monkey Shoulder is a mix of three different Speyside single malts and is great with mixers or just on its own. Smooth, sweet, and very easy to drink. Intended for mixing, so bring on the whisky sours and the Blood & Sands. Or drink this blended Scotch straight if you choose, to enjoy mouthwatering butterscotch and juicy orange, balanced by oaky tannins into the finish.

Monkey Shoulder Scotch is a superb blended malt whisky from William Grant, made with single malts from three famous Speyside distilleries. The result is a smooth, creamy, supple, and very malty Scotch which works superbly well neat, over ice, or in whisky cocktails.

Monkey Shoulder is labeled “Batch 27” as a reference to the original experimental batching of 27 casks. Now, runs of Monkey Shoulder are made 27 casks at a time, although the batches are not individually numbered.

The vatting is a mix of William Grant & Sons’ three distilleries, all located in Dufftown, in Speyside: Glenfiddich, The Balvenie, and Kininvie. All three are from “first-fill” ex-bourbon casks. Sometimes malts from other, undisclosed distilleries might be included in the vatting. The ages of the whiskies are unreleased, but you can basically assume they’re young.

Nose:

An elegant, stylish nose of marmalade, Crema Catalana, cocoa, and malt. Plenty of vanilla and a sprinkling of winter spice alongside a mouth-watering hint of aniseed.

Palate:

Very malty, creamy delivery with a suggestion of berry fruit. Juicy toasted barley, cloves, and butterscotch. Manuka honey, hot-buttered-toast, and dried apricot develop.

Finish:

Medium length, spicy oak, and a hint of peppermint on the tail.

Overall:

Some say it tastes just like riding bareback on the wild moors of Scotland with a flame-haired maiden on Christmas morning. Others agree it tastes like 007 wearing a tuxedo wetsuit.
