A Lowland single malt matured in 3 different casks, namely: Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, bourbon casks and Oloroso Sherry casks. A distinctive triple distilled whisky from Auchentoshan. The ever-popular Auchentoshan 3 Wood is matured initially in bourbon casks before being finished in Oloroso then Pedro Ximénez casks for an extra layer of rich, sweet fruitiness.

A rather unique & popular Auchentoshan lowland single malt Scotch whisky. This whisky is matured in 3 different casks; ex bourbon casks, Oloroso sherry & Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. This unique maturation process gives the whisky a rich sweet fruitiness.

Launched in 1998, ‘Three Wood’ is a reference to this expression being made from whisky aged in a mix of ex-bourbon, ex-Oloroso sherry and ex-Pedro Ximinex casks. Three Wood has spent ten years in bourbon casks, up to two years in Oloroso butts and as many as two years in Pedro Ximénez butts. Three Wood typically has a combined age of 12-14 years but carries no age statement.

Auchentoshan Three Wood is one of the few remaining Lowland distilleries in existence. Located just outside of Glasgow, they are also the only ones in Scotland still triple distilling their product, formerly a common occurrence for the Lowland area. The Triple Wood expression was first released in 2002 and is aged in ex Bourbon casks before being aged in Oloroso and then Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks.

Nose:

Cooked fruit, sherry, toffee, a rum-like quality and notes of Bas Armagnac distilled circa 1940.

Palate:

Rich. Liqueur cherries in dark chocolate, more sherried fruit, ripe dark forest fruits, like a Black Forest Gateaux.

Finish:

Superb, led by thick dark treacle and toffee notes and chewy wooded notes, balanced with a green fruit edge.
