Distilled in Barbados, this expression from Mount Gay Eclipse Rum was named for the ‘double phenomenon’ of a total solar eclipse and the passage of Halley’s comet in 1910.
From probably the oldest rum distillery in the world, comes this legendary Barbados golden rum. Mount Gay Eclipse is absolutely superb value for money.
Mount Gay Eclipse Rum, the world’s oldest rum distillery is proud of its 300 years of heritage. Eclipse is made with traditional copper tools and matured in American whiskey casks. It is the embodiment of our style with notes of vanilla, almond, ripe banana, and dark chocolate.
The rum has recently been relabelled, with Est 1703 and Barbados much more prominent than before. The bottle has also been changed slightly. It’s quite an unusual bottle similar to a normal bar bottle but with a much flatter profile. As with most rums readily available it has the usual metal screw top closure.
Eclipse is the reference for character, body, and aroma by which our Master Blender Allen Smith uses to blend every variety of Mount Gay Rum. For many rum aficionados, Eclipse is also the reference by which all rum should be measured. Eclipse has a brilliant golden amber color and a luxuriously complex aroma. Distinctive floral and fruity notes of apricot and banana, with hints of vanilla.
The nose is full and rounded with notes of fresh flowers and honey, a little vanilla and tropical fruit.
The palate is fruity and well-rounded with notes of banana, vanilla, smoke, toasty oak, spice.
