Laphroaig Quarter Cask Scotch Whisky 750ml
$135.00 $108.00
Released in 2004, this bottling was aged for around five years before being finished in a quarter cask for several months, the size of the cask is quite small, thus does not require such a long maturation. This remains a truly great achievement from Laphroaig Quarter.
The first nosings find clean, apple peel-like, and peat-free scents; later inhalations find a more sea breeze like mildly briny character. Palate entry is lean, earthy, moderately smoky, and lemony; midpalate is oily with flavors of ash, peat, sweet malt, and brine. Concludes sweet, peaty, and cigarette ash-like, with a bite of green olive.
A vibrant young Laphroaig Quarter whose maturation has been accelerated by aging in quarter casks. This shows soft sweetness and a velvety feel when first tasted, then the intense peatiness so unique to Laphroaig comes bursting through. A terrific whisky and great value.
This expression offers an irresistible doubling of flavor due to the double maturation in two casks made of American oak.
Still-maturing whisky from our standard ex-bourbon barrels is transferred to quarter casks and left to rest in our warehouse just a stone’s throw from the Atlantic shore.
This process represents Laphroaig breathing new life into a once-defunct tradition: the use of the smaller cask size, which ensures increased contact with the oak, creating a soft and velvety edge to complement Laphroaig’s distinctive peatiness.
Nose:
Oily and buttery nose, with toffee, nuttiness, hickory, bicarbonate of soda, rum, and raisin ice cream and zest.
Palate:
The big rush of sweetness, in fact, it’s an explosion of sweetness, with fiery chili heat, TCP, sweet cereals, and a touch of cola syrup.
Finish:
Medium-length, but becomes fruity, with custard and cigar smoke.
