Laird’s Apple Brandy 7 1/2 Year Old
Laird’s Apple Brandy is one of the oldest distilleries in the united states dating from 1698. They use whole, tree-ripened apples, and naturally occurring yeasts to produce their product which is fermented, pot distilled, then aged in charred oak barrels for 7½ years.
This apple brandy is one of the finest American apple brandy available. Each of the barrels containing apple brandy is tasted as they rest in our barrel-aging facility. Barrels must have a minimum of 7½ years of age before they are considered. This product is straight apple brandy and is not blended with any other products. After charcoal filtering, it is reduced to 80 proof and bottled.
The aroma consists of pleasingly tart, toasty, baked apple smells, and tightly wound aromas of wood resin, cedar, and apple pastry. The palate entry is appropriately astringent; at midpalate tastes of apple peel, pears, pepper, and wood take charge.
Copper color. Luscious buttery apple and bourbon barrel aromas. A smooth slightly tannic entry leads to a dry, medium-bodied palate with high char, dry caramel, bourbon barrel flavors.
Laird’s Old Apple Brandy was first introduced by the Laird Family in 1964 to commemorate New Jersey’s 300th anniversary. It is a 100% straight apple brandy aged in charred oak barrels. Once the brandy has rested for 7 ½ years in our barrel-aging warehouses, a select tasting is done to determine which barrels will be used for this exclusive brandy.
Stewed apples generously doused in baking spices are offered on the nose, along with warming mulled wine. The palate showcases freshly sliced apples with kirsch—cherry eau-de-vie—vanilla, dry oak, and sandalwood. The finish showcases more cherries along with milk chocolate, expressed orange peels, and honey-drizzled apples.
