Originally released for the Travel Retail market, this is Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel 100 Proof, which is bottled at a slightly higher strength than the standard Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel.
While not officially labelled bourbon, most of Jack Daniel’s whiskeys meet the criteria required to be called bourbon. After distillation, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey undergoes what is referred to as the ‘Lincoln County Process. Jack Daniel’s allows its whiskey to drip for six days in 10-foot vats, passing through charcoal that was made by burning maple wood that had been impregnated with 140 proof Jack Daniel’s whiskey, before being put in new charred oak barrels and aged for an estimated 4-7 years.
A bottle of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel – a richer variation of JD, with less sweetness and more power than the No.7. A favourite in bars, this is a must for aficionados.
Rich and sweet-smelling with golden syrup, demerara sugar, polished and varnished old furniture, nougat, pleasing leafy herbs, fennel, liquorice and sugared almonds.
Spicy initially, followed by a wave of oak and honey; it becomes very leafy next, with the herbal notes in the background, before a secondary wave of sweet clove-flavoured rock and wood glue.
Great length, with a tingling herby spiciness and fading honeyed sweetness.
