Laphroaig Select Scotch Whisky 70cl

For the Laphroaig Select Scotch Whisky, the Islay distillery has taken whisky from a number of different types of cask, including Oloroso Sherry butts, white American oak, Pedro Ximenez seasoned hoggies, Quarter casks and first fill bourbon casks. Quite a “selection”, wouldn’t you say? A laid-back addition to the Laphroaig core range of single malts.

Laphroaig Select Scotch Whisky is aged in a combination of Oloroso sherry butts, American white oak (we suspect some of this is virgin oak), hogsheads seasoned with Pedro Ximenez, quarter casks and first fill bourbon casks. This results in a restrained and toned down version of this Islay classic.

Laphroaig Select is finished for 6 months in new American oak casks placed in the highest, warmest reaches of Laphroaig’s warehouses over the summer months, after initial aging in a mix of PX seasoned hogsheads, Quarter Casks and Triple Wood (European oak casks) with a final addition of 10 year old.

For this release, Laphroaig combined selections from its Quarter Cask, PX Cask, Triple Wood and Ten-Year Old Casks – different maturation styles and oaks – together in one whisky. Master Distiller John Campbell produced this Scotch in honor of Ian Hunter, the last family member to own Laphroiag. Hunter had an affinity for whiskies aged in both bourbon and European oak, combining the new with the classic.
