Compass Box No Name, no. 2 will transport you straight to the peat bogs and malt kilns of Scotland’s west coast. Weighty on the palate, hugely complex and concentrated, no name, no. 2 also introduces a degree of delicacy. Our second whisky in the series offers an elegant mix of dried fruit notes. Reminiscent of red cherries, and even a floral quality.

Like its older brother Compass Box No Name, No. 2 is a seriously-smoky ode to peat. Created through a marriage of whiskies from the village of Port Askaig on Islay’s northeast coast, Brora in the northern Highlands, and from the Isle of Skye. The smoke is lighter than before, with a waxy flavor peeking through, alongside rich, fruity cherry notes that mingle with bonfire smoke.

Don’t be fooled, it’s still a fabulously peaty treat marrying Island single malts, the first a sherry-matured Caol Ila, the second from Talisker aged in re-charred American oak hogsheads.

Finally, a single malt from Clynelish was added alongside a mystery Highland malt blend which was aged in French oak. At 48.9% ABV, it’s packed full of peat without being overpowering, letting some of the more delicate nuances shine through.

Nose:

Loads of smoky peat aromas, balanced by dried cherry and prune sweetness, a sweet floral note, and a touch of bonfire smoke with a waxy citrus peel.

Palate:

Sweet and smoky intertwine with smoked meats, a hint of salt, oak char, and dried fruit notes, with fresh, ripe cherries.

Finish:

Rock salt and maritime smoke with a dash of red fruit and a dry oaky finish.
