Chateau Tronquoy Lalande will be appreciated to find in the assembly of melted tannins, spicy aromas and flavors of tobacco, resin, blackcurrant, or licorice that constitute the aromatic identity card of Château Tronquoy-Lalande and give it a well-marked personality.
Four grape varieties are used in the Tronquoy-Lalande blend: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Each plays its role and values the other three by bringing here roundness, density, elsewhere aromas or persistence.
A pure, racy version, with an iron-edged frame that keeps the red currant and damson plum fruit very focused. Mouthwatering tobacco and wet pebble accents are inlaid on the pleasantly austere finish. Well done. Best from 2018 through 2024.
Just as expressive from the bottle as it was from the barrel, the 2014 Tronquoy-Lalande is superb. Black cherry, plum, gravel, smoke, savory herbs, licorice and expressive floral notes abound in a rich, deeply textured Saint-Estèphe that will drink well with minimal cellaring.
The plush, textured finish only adds to the wine’s considerable appeal. Drink this pliant, expressive Saint-Estèphe over the next 15-20 years or more. This is a stellar showing. The blend is 56 % Merlot, 37 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 6 % Petit Verdot, and 1 % Cabernet Franc.
From the owners of Chateau Tronquoy Lalande, the 2014 Tronquoy Lalande is a beautifully ripe, pure, nicely concentrated, and classic wine from this estate that literally screams “Saint-Estèphe” in its dark currant and cassis fruits and notes of damp earth, tobacco, and underbrush.
Another big, dark St.-Estephe, but in spite of the rich body and some perceptible alcohol, there is also a cool, minty note. Slightly sweet finish…The spice comes through at the end.
