Kubler Absinthe Superieure Original or “La Bleu” is bottled at 53% ABV. A Blanche style of Absinthe. This is the original family recipe dating back to 1863 consisting of 9 botanicals, and utilizing Wormwood sourced exclusively from the Val de Travers, Switzerland.
Absinthe was banned in the United States for nearly a century, and Kubler is the first genuine Swiss absinthe to be released in the U.S. market since. It comes from the Val-de-Travers where absinthe was invented in the late 19th century, and it is produced according to its original formula.
Kubler Absinthe Superieure is distilled with herbs grown in the Val-de-Travers; Artemisia Absinthium more commonly known as wormwood is the primary ingredient in a formula that also includes coriander, mint, anise, and fennel among other herbs and botanicals.
Rich black licorice, white pepper, spice, and meringue aromas follow through on a soft, supple entry to a dryish medium-to-full body with lots of dried hay, wet stone, and crushed anise layers. Finishes with a long, hot, anise, and drying wormwood tea-like fade.
Pure, dry, and precise absinthe. Tasted louched as an absinthe cocktail: Milky white pearl color with a blue cast. Nutty and herbal wormwood notes mesh on the nose with the anise.
The palate smoothes out and becomes more even and integrated. Finishes with a touch of mint and metal ore in addition to anise and wormwood. A rich, balanced, and sophisticated cocktail.
Testing Notes:
Aromas of popcorn, vinyl, wet cement, and chalk; aeration introduces a medicinal yet earthy odor. Palate entry features unfolding flavors of anise, metal, legumes, and vegetable broth; at midpalate, the alcohol intensity abates as tastes of mushrooms, black peppercorn, aniseed, and chalk accelerate. The finish is extended, mossy, and not too sweet.
