Dom Benedictine Liqueur 375 ml is based on brandy and neutral spirit and flavoured with 56 different herbs and spices with saffron to give the amber hue. These herbs are used in four different preparations, three using distillations and one maceration, all aged independently before blending and further aging. Bénédictine is good served long with soda or tonic and is closely associated with classic cocktails such as the Singapore Sling, Vieux Carré and La Louisiane. Bénédictine mixes well with cognac, whisk(e)y, gin and vodka. Also to try 1 part Bénédictine with 3 parts hot jasmine tea as a toddy.
Really tasty French liqueur, Bénédictine was originally created as an elixir to sustain monks as they worked. D.O.M. stands for “Deo Optimo Maximo” meaning, “To God most good, most great”. The flavour is very pungent with spices and herbs. Rich and flavoursome.
A blend 27 plants and spices which come from around the world are used in making this Dom Benedictine Liqueur 375 ml. Angelica, hyssop, juniper, myrrh, saffron, aloe, arnica, cinnamon are among them, though the full list is a secret. It is distilled in copper stills and then aged in oak casks.
The bouquet is mesmerizing with multiple layers of fragrances that include pine/cedar, fennel, white pepper, licorice, mace, allspice, sage and rosemary. An orange zest flavor appears at palate entry; midpalate finds exotic tastes of orange zest, tangerine zest, multiple herbs and spices, honey and pine. A fabulous liqueur.”
