Dalwhinnie 30 Year is one of eight single malt Scotch whiskies in Diageo’s 2020 Special Release Collection. Crafted by master blender Dr. Craig Wilson, the theme for this year’s collection is “Rare by Nature.” Dalwhinnie 30 Year is matured in refill hogsheads. It is bottled at a natural cask strength of 51.9% ABV. Availability is limited to 6,978 bottles in the US, Europe, Canada, Australia, South Africa, select Asian markets and airport duty free in late fall 2020.
Behold, a rather well-matured single malt from the Dalwhinnie 30 Year Distillery, bottled for Diageo’s 2020 Special Releases! This expression slumbered soundly for 30 years in refill hogshead casks, before being bottled up at 51.9% ABV. Brilliant stuff, this. Loads of shortbread, orchard fruit and soft spices to dig into.
A well-aged and elegant expression for Dalwhinnie, released as part of the Diageo Special Releases 2020. It was matured in refill hogsheads for 30 years, creating a crême-brulée-tinged whisky that’s run through with fruit, herbs and spice.
This ultra-rare single vintage Dalwhinnie has an astonishing bright intensity for its age and comes uniquely from refill American oak hogsheads, all of which were casked in 1989.
Like a dusty old library book next to an old-school loose tobacco jar, plus boiled sweets, herbal florals and wood shavings. There’s a very subtle influence of struck match, too – but it adds colour and dimension rather than overpowering.
There’s a peppery wood spice that comes through, alongside greener, herbal notes. The florals become increasingly drier, but the texture is lifted by some juicy orchard fruit notes. The library books become more leathery when water is added.
Long and lively, with lashings of warming sweet spices.
The gentle dram gets a burst of energy!
