Bunnahabhain 25 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750ml

Bunnahabhain 25 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is matured for a quarter-century in three unique types of casks: ex-bourbon (20%), ex-Scotch (60%) and ex-Oloroso sherry (20%). As a result, the whisky has a sweet caramel aroma, with hints of berries, vanilla cream, roasted almonds, malt and spice cake on the palate. The finish is soft yet dry, with touches of brown sugar, cloves and caramelized oranges.

The whisky earned the Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2011, 2012 and 2013. In addition, the whisky was named the “Best Islay Single Malt”at the World Whiskies Awards in 2014.

In what will be seen as a positive move to whisky connoisseurs. Bunnahabhain have decided to bottle the 25 year old without chill-filtration and without colouring. Presented in smoked oak glass bottle and aged label design.

An update to the much vaunted Bunnhabhain 25 year old, keeping. The same age statement and presentation but upping the ABV to 46.3% to bring it line with the rest of the range. A great whisky at 43% but even better now with a little more oomph.

Relaunched in summer 2010 with a new smoked glass replacing the old emerald green bottle and a jump in strength to 46.3%. Since the change Bunnahabhain 35 Year Old has been bottled without chill-filtration or added colouring. Bunnahabhain’s label still features a seafaring Scot, ‘The helmsman’, wearing a tartan bonnet searching for home.

Nose:

Sherried; sweet toffee and polished leather followed by cinnamon and the faintest hint of cardamon.

Palate:

Fruit compote doused in cream and caster sugar, this develops into roasted malt, chestnuts and stewed raisins.

Finish:

Demerara sugar, mixed spice, nutmeg and caramel lingering for long after the final sip.

Overall:

Bunnahabhain with twenty-five years aging opens up the spirit to a plethora of rich, dark flavours that stay with the drinker long after the glass is finished.
