Resilient 14 Year Old produces a line of single barrel whiskies the labels of which state simply “where it’s bottled, barrel #, bottle #, distilled on the date, bottled on date, proof, and mash bill. On the nose, this perfectly aged bourbon reveals a lovely bouquet of baked orchard fruits with a touch of fine leather, vanilla meltaways, toffee, and oak spice. On the taste, baked apple, and red cherry leaps forth with vanilla, toffee, and oak spice underneath.

The bourbon is currently being sourced from Dickel and the rye from MGP. It is bottled as a single barrel product and they are extremely transparent about what is in the bottle.

NOSE:

 Dark sweetness nearing cocoa powder with a slight orange behind that. The longer it opens up sweet corn comes to the front, but not in the dominant way that it can with Dickel products.

palate:

Dark fruit is the first thing I notice most closely resembling plum. The palate dries out pretty quickly with a flash of sawdust. A really sweet vanilla sugar cookie comes in behind that leading into the finish. The finish is pretty short in length and is mostly vanilla with a hint of spice.

finish:

The finish is quite nice with apple skins, clove, and cherry cobbler fading ever so slowly. A warming spice, Seasoned oak, Tobacco, Caramel chews, Lingering sweetness.

overall:

While much lower proof, high aged George Dickel barrels are just less intense versions of their higher proof counterparts, some barrels surprise you. Resilient 14 Year Old is an exception to the rule, bringing a richer intensity than most. Sweet dessert-like flavors lead, but it transitions to more savory flavors as it progresses.
