Tormore 13 Year Old Discovery Single Malt Scotch Whisky By Gordon & Macphail 70cl

From the Tormore Distillery comes this fruity Speysider, independently bottled by Gordon & MacPhail. It was left to mature for 13 years, before it was bottled as part of the Discovery series. The bottling series is colour coded, and green means that the whisky bourbon matured.

Made at Tormore distillery, this Speyside single malt has been matured in ex-bourbon casks for 13 years, before being bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in 2019 as part of its Discovery Series. Aromas of pineapples, grapefruit, coconut and vanilla mingle with freshly-cut grass on the nose, and the palate offers notes of baked apples, milk chocolate and lime, developing into a clean, herbal finish.

In an effort to modernize, the 122-year-old company Gordon & MacPhail overhauled all its ranges in April 2018. Its new Discovery range emphasises taste profiles over distillery provenance, and this 13 year old Tormore is meant to showcase the kinds of flavors that bourbon casks can provide.

Light and well balanced. Scottish gorse bushes and pineapples as well as a touch of candy-style sweetness on the nose. It descends softly from there into a lovely apple crumble on the palate, with some chocolate chips sprinkled in for good measure.

Nose:

Apple skin and tangy pineapple, with vanilla pod, bananas and custard.

Palate:

Creamy Bounty bar, apple pie, grapefruit peel and freshly cut grass.

Finish:

Green oak and orange blossom.
