The Macallan Gold Double Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky
The Macallan Gold Double Cask is the released edition of The Macallan Gold from the 1824 series, which was discontinued in early 2018 to make way for the Double Cask, Triple Cask Matured and Sherry Oak ranges. This expression is drawn from a combination of American and European oak sherry-seasoned casks, making for a wonderful introduction to the Macallan flavour profile.
Double Cask Gold is the new name for Gold as part of Macallan’s relaunched range introduced in 2018. Aged in a combination of first fill and refill sherry casks, it is designed to sit between the now-defunct 10yo Sherry Oak and 10yo Fine Oak bottlings.
The Macallan Double Cask Gold Single Malt Scotch Whisky reveals the unrivalled commitment to the mastery of wood and spirit for which The Macallan has been known since it was established in 1824. The perfect partnership of Oloroso sherry seasoned American and European oak casks creates this burnished gold whisky. Light citrus notes and boiled sweets rule the palate before giving way to cinnamon, ginger and toasted apples.
This burnished gold spirit presents a lemon citrus nose, the orange peel and an interlacing sweetness that softens but doesn’t eliminate the zest. A quiet note of vanilla is followed by dark chocolate – more assertive, yet not overly so – with a lingering floral and light oak notes.
Citrus and boiled sweets rule the palate, along with hints of ginger and cinnamon, while soft oak tones reveal toasted apples.
The finish is medium sweet, malty and slightly dry.
