Stranahans Blue Peak Single Malt Whiskey 750ml
Stranahan’s Blue Peak is a single malt whiskey handcrafted at high altitude and cut to proof with pristine Rocky Mountain water. Inspired by Spanish sherry bodegas. At the heart of our distillery sit unique oak vats called foeders. Never emptied. Here we carefully marry together casks of our aged single malts creating a harmonious whiskey of unusual depth and complexity.
Blue Peak is the latest innovation from Colorado’s Stranahan’s, which has been dedicated to American single malt whiskey since the earliest days of the craft movement. This offering is a four year old toddler, spending its first four years in 53 gallon new oak barrels with a #3 char. From there, things get more interesting, as the whiskey is finished in a unique solera system.
Stranahan’s Blue Peak is named after a 13,000 foot peak in Aspen, Colorado. The Colorado single malt is first aged for 4 years in 53-gallon new, charred American oak (char #3) in the high altitude of its Denver warehouses. Then the whiskey is further aged in foeders (large oak barrels) which are made from new American oak. Here the whiskey mingles with other single malt for several months before a portion is removed. The foeders are never emptied creating a solera system. This is a permanent addition to the portfolio and is available as of October 2020.
Dried apricot, nutmeg, cinnamon toast, hints of leather and light tobacco.
