Scapa The Orcadian Scotch Whiskey Glansa
Old Norse for “shining storm-laden skies,” Glansa is the first peated single malt expression from this Orkney island-based distillery. Bottled at 40% ABV, it carries no age statement and was double matured in first-fill American oak casks and ex-peated whisky casks. Scapa The Orcadian Scotch Glansa will be part of the distillery’s core range and be made available at duty free stores beginning in September 2016.
Billed as being the “first peated single malt from The Orcadian Distillery”, this peated Scapa expression was released in October 2016. Scapa Glansa is finished in casks that have previously held heavily peated malt whisky. The casks are emptied and almost immediately filled with Scapa single malt.
This lightly smoky whisky from Scapa was aged initially in American oak before being finished in ex-peated-whisky casks. The result is fruity and creamy whisky with notes of peach, vanilla, caramel and soft smoke.
