The 2017 Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich, boisterous wine that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Ripe dark cherry, plum, leather, chocolate, spice, and menthol are front and center in this boisterous, explosive Napa Valley Cabernet. Best of all, this flashy and flamboyant Cabernet is a fabulous value.
A beautiful nose redolent of fresh, ripe blackberry and black plum jam, gently framed by notes of dried thyme and toast. On the palate, the wine is full and juicy, brimming with more black fruit and touches of bittersweet chocolate, mint, and dried straw. Generous and harmonious, with velvety tannins and a long, smooth finish.
Most of the fruit for this wine was sourced from two of the valley’s most renowned sub-appellations and vineyards: our To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville on the well-drained alluvial bench surrounding the winery and our Wappo Hill vineyard in the Stags Leap District.
Dark fruits of black cherry, plum, and blackberry are layered seamlessly with sweet spice, herbal, dark earth, and a touch of sweet tobacco. Silky tannins and a long finish round out this Cabernet.
Their soils elicit a wonderfully concentrated, expressive, classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. A smaller percentage of the fruit comes from other top vineyard sites, including the Oak Knoll District, renowned for freshness and fullness.
