Peychaud’s Aperitivo is described as an “extremely versatile spirit” and has been designed to be mixed with a “wide variety of spirits”, either behind the bar or at home.

“Peychaud’s Aperitivo is a refreshing spirit that’s easy to drink, and the perfect addition for fun and fresh cocktails,” said Jana Ritter, associate brand manager.

“We are very excited to introduce Peychaud’s Aperitivo to the cocktail world and to Peychaud’s fans everywhere.”

Peychaud’s Bitter was founded by Antoine Amedie Peychaud, who began producing bitters in a New Orleans apothecary more than 150 years ago, eventually becoming the lead bartender of the Sazerac Coffeehouse.

Released in February 2016, Peychaud’s Aperitivo borrows its name, and indeed red hue, from Peychaud’s Bitters, originally produced by New Orleans apothecary, Antoine Amedie Peychaud in the mid-1800s.

A sweet and spicy aperitif from Peychaud’s, originally created in the 1930s in New Orleans. The palate offers notes of cherry, clove and nutmeg, balanced by bitter orange and grapefruit.

An aperitivo from Peychauds, makers of world-famous New Orleans Creole bitters! Great in refreshing summer drinks, for example mix with sparkling wine for tasty spritz.

Peychaud’s Aperitivo was launched in 2016 by its parent company, Sazerac, which also produces the classic Peychaud’s Bitters. This bright red bitter liqueur is bottled at 22 proof.

Appearance:

Clear, light rusty red with bright glints.

Aroma:

Zesty orange and grapefruit with underlying herbal notes.

Taste:

Light and subtle, bitter sweet and zesty with bitter orange, grapefruit sherbet and herbal rooty complexity. Faint clove spice.

Aftertaste:

Lingering orange and grapefruit light bitter zestiness.

Overall:

As bitter Italian aperitivos go, Peychaud’s is on the light side – slightly drier and rootier than Aperol but much tamer than the likes of Campari. Low in alcohol, this is a middle of the road crowd-pleasing Aperitivo.
