Old Tahoe Straight Rye Whiskey
Old Tahoe Straight Rye Whiskey exhibits the traditional characteristics of a superior quality Straight Rye Whiskey. This palate is a historic expression of the classic American whiskey style that should be expected from a Premium Straight Rye Whiskey. The taste profile is achieved by the marriage of the finest available ingredients including a Straight Rye “Mashbill” and closely managed small-batch aging in properly prepared wood.
Old Tahoe Straight Rye Whiskey will present a stronger and spicier spirit than a Bourbon or Tennessee whiskey. As a rough comparison, think of the difference between cornbread and rye bread. This subtle and elegant taste profile with depth is achieved by combining Straight Rye Whiskey with a closely directed aging process. The result is Old Tahoe’s Smooth, deep taste with the expected Rye taste characteristics.
Old Tahoe Straight Rye Whiskey is made from a 100% rye mash bill and aged in new American white oak for at least three years. A classic rye whiskey with a spicy backbone. The Old Tahoe Distillery’s website opines that “Rye is the new Scotch.” and the blurb on the back of a bottle of their Rye does the same. Perhaps there is some justice to that since the Rye craze has introduced new Rye expressions of comparable quality and sophistication to even the super-premium single Malt and blended Scotches.
The hint of glue, behind that, there is quite some sweetness. It is not a very typical rye nose though. But it is nice, given some time and warmth. I get some green apples and some unripe pears.
Little rough, but there is a rye note in here. I doubt this is 100% rye. There is also quite some grain whiskey note. There are some caramel and toffee, but all in all, this is not a very outspoken whiskey.
Medium length. It is a bit bitter, which makes me assume a rather high grain percentage. a bit dry too. There are notes of caramel and ginger here.
