Ledaig Vintage 1996 19 Year Old Scotch Whisky
Ledaig Vintage 1996 19 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Isle of Mull, Scotland. Ledaig is the peated expression of Tobermory distillery. Made with some of the first peated spirit to be produced at Tobermory distillery on the Isle of Mull in 1996, this has been aged for just under two decades, including a finishing period in ex-oloroso sherry casks. A wonderful mix of spice, smoke and sweetness.
A Ledaig Vintage 1996 Ledaig single malt Scotch whisky from Tobermory, which has been given a finishing period in Oloroso Sherry casks. Interestingly, this expression has been made using some of the first peated whisky produced at Tobermory when they started distilling peated malt in 1996!
Released as a limited edition bottling in February 2015, this Hebridean malt was distilled in 1996, one of the first peated malts to be distilled at the distillery now called Tobermory. Aged 20 years in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. The packaging features distinctive tones of purple and the bottle is presented in a dark wooden box.
Clear, golden amber.
Honeyed and smoky with toasty bready maltiness, rubber and rich baked apple and wine aromas. With water, earthy old leather, apple and faint vanilla almond.
Full-bodied, rich and yet dry. Peaty smoke, toasty malt and nutmeg spice with baked apple, sweet wine notes and faint mint jelly. Much sweeter with water, releasing fresh green apple and sweet cinnamon.
Long, smoky, salty and spicy finish. Overall: A robust, dry, spicy malt which combines smoky earthy notes with sweet baked apple and rich wine notes. Not easy but likable.
