Laird’s Applejack Apple Spirit is an American apple brandy, although this popular brand is also made with a neutral spirit. This sprightly little product from Laird’s makes for a great addition to many a fine cocktail. It’s aged for between 3 and 4 years.

The Laird Family has been producing Laird’s Applejack in Monmouth Country, New Jersey since 1698. The first physical records referring to the commercial distillation of sale of Applejack was entered in Robert Laird’s account book of operations in 1780.

Nose:

caramel, a bit of spice, sour apple, alcohol

Palate:

Sweet, creamy caramel apple on entry, then hot.  With a splash of filtered water, sweet apple pie and sour apple Now-n-Laters come to the fore, with a surprising hit of wood at the end.

Finish:

Hot, dry, finishing up with a big, dry tingle.  With the water, the heat abates.  There is some wood carryover, but, as on the palate, the sweetness predominates, with sweet apple lingering on the tongue for a long time.
