Bartenders have been dying to get their hands on it for years. Now it’s back and bolder than ever. Founded in 1795, our rye whiskey is made from one of the Beam family’s oldest recipes and is distilled with the same exacting standards that have governed Jim Beam for more than 200 years.
Jim Beam Kentucky Whiskey, according to information on the label, is an 80 proof offering that’s made from a “time-honored Beam family recipe.” It is aged in your typical new, charred white oak barrels, and is said to be a “distinctively dry, spiced rye” that has “a bold flavor and a long, soft finish.” Made to one of Beam’s oldest recipes, this release of rye whiskey is made in a pre-Prohibition style. Big, bold and spicy with notes of vanilla and black pepper.
Palate: The spice delivery is not immediate; first there’s a brief caramel vanilla note before it plunges you in. All the notes from the nose are here, delivered with a pleasant, fiery warmth.
Finish: This rounds off to smooth cherry and pepper, with a slightly citric sweetness.
Overall: Right. This is simply great for the sub-£30 price tag. I’m off to make an old fashioned…
