Jeffersons Very Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 750ml

Jefferson’s Bourbon is made in very small batches. Actually, ridiculously small batches. We take up to four different Kentucky straight bourbon whiskies of different ages and marry them together. Doing this, we get a lot of complexity and balance while maintaining the consistency needed in a bourbon. We wanted to make it big enough for the connoisseur, yet approachable for people just getting into the premium bourbon field.

In 1997 Trey Zoeller and his father Chet launched Jefferson’s Bourbon. Trey created the company McClain & Kyne to bottle Jefferson’s which is still used to this day. In 2005, Castle Brands purchased McClain & Kyne which held ownership of the Jefferson’s name. Up until 2015, Jefferson’s was distilled by various distilleries. In 2015 Castle Brands purchased a 20% share in the Copperhead Distillery Company. Copperhead owns and operates Kentucky Artisan Distillery, which is rumored to now supply approximately 25% of the bourbon used in Jefferson’s Very Small Batch Bourbon.

While no exact ratio of barrels is given, Jefferson’s states that “four different Kentucky straight bourbon whiskies of different ages…one of the blends comprising of at least 55% of the total” are blended together to form each very small batch.

Appearance / Color
Light bronze

NOSE
Soft and sweet with notes of bourbon spice, vanilla, caramel, dark fruit, honey and citrus peel with a touch of anise and fruit compote. It’s on the lighter/sweeter side of bourbon and in some ways it reminds of a wheater.

PALATE
Slightly richer and denser than the nose, but still on the light side, the palate is layered with notes of burnt caramel, cinnamon heavy spice, dark fruit leather, honey soaked baklava, pie crust and a touch of wood.

FINISH
Long and woody with notes of caramel syrup, spice, vanilla, biscuits and some astringency. The finish might be the strongest part of this whiskey.
