Jarvis Cabernet Franc has long been the favorite grape varietal of William Jarvis. He believes that it grows exceptionally well in the Napa Valley and is particularly suited to the Jarvis cool-climate vineyards. This versatile grape is used as a blending element of our flagship Lake William Blend and the principal ingredient of the Science Project wine.  It is bottled also as a varietal wine.

Dusty garnet color. Herbal, vegetal aromas and flavors of parsley stems, red plum, Palo Santo smoke, bergamot, and tobacco with a velvety, lively, dry medium-to-full body and a smooth, engaging, medium-long finish that presents notes of earl grey tea, cranberry, hazelnut, and roasted beets with well-integrated, earthy tannins and light oak flavor. A nicely restrained and well-concentrated Cabernet Franc with velvety texture; share and impress.

Smoky oak, sage, and sanguine red fruit form the core of this classic, old-world styled red, 100% varietal, and from the producer’s mountain estate. Intensely structured and dense in tannin, it shows potential for aging, with high notes of herb and pencil shavings.

The Jarvis Cabernet Franc is barrel-aged for 23 months in 100% new French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

This wine is aged in the Jarvis caves and is not released until the winemaker feels it is ready for full enjoyment. The grapes for all Jarvis wines are grown in their own hillside vineyards, which were originally planted in 1985.

The winery and vineyards are located in the Vaca Mountains of Napa, about 1,000 feet above the valley floor, just 4 miles east of the city of Napa. The cool mountain growing region provides moderate temperatures for optimum ripening of the grapes.

Testing Notes:

This wine has lifted raspberry, blackcurrant, cherry, and floral notes on the nose as well as a slight savouriness and lifted oak. The palate is soft and rounded with integrated oak, cherries, blood plum, and raspberry flavors providing a long and persistent finish. You will reap the rewards of our patient cellaring for 15 years.
