Groth Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon embodies the essence of the most remarkable winegrowing region in the Napa Valley. Or maybe the world. It originates from our tiny Reserve Vineyard, in an appellation where nature’s perfections—from soil to climate—coalesce, allowing us to produce the ultimate expression of Oakville.
The 2014 Groth Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon shows the intrinsic black stone fruit nuances and the elegant tannin structure that define our Oakville, Napa Valley-floor Cabernet.
Muted at first, this reserve wine shows a deft hand. A red currant tone is met by a mild grip of tannins and a soft midpalate that is lightly rich in coconut shavings and mocha. Supple and balanced in richness, it offers classic flavors of cassis and cherry wrapped in supportive oak.
Aromas of dark berry, fresh-cut herbs, cedary oak, and gravelly earth are tight and well-centered. Still raw and edgy, but nothing a year or two won’t resolve. Patience required. Best from 2020 through 2033. 4,000 cases made.
Aged 22 months in 100% new French oak, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve offers slightly more richness and depth, with similar notes of black currants, tobacco leaf, herbs and damp earth. Medium-bodied, nicely concentrated, with firm, yet ripe tannin, it’s certainly not a blockbuster, but has attractive elegance and purity, with plenty of tannins. Give bottles 2-4 years and enjoy over the following decade.
Intense deep garnet in the glass, this Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromas of sweet plum and black cherry, complemented by oak spice notes of nutmeg, anise, and vanilla. A smooth entry on the palate builds quickly into lush, ripe, dark cherry and black currants, backed up with sweet oak and an excellent tannin structure.
