Glenlivet 21 Year Old Archive Scotch Whisky
The 21 year is also called “The Archive” as there is whisky aged 40 years and older in the bottle. The whisky is aged in both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and, although the packaging doesn’t affect the taste, it comes in a very attractive box for a gift or the collector.
A Gold Medal Winner at the 2005, 2006 and 2007 International Wine & Spirit Competition, the 2002 International Spirits Challenge and a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. This is a well-regarded 21 year old from Glenlivet.
Glenlivet is one of those distilleries whose malts just keep improving with age. This superb 21yo is an elegant, intricate, sophisticated malt, presented in a very smart wooden box – just don’t drop it on your foot.
The sizeable aged stocks at Glenlivet are evident in this malt which draws upon a wide variety of cask types, all with at least 21-years maturation, including a relatively high percentage of sherry compared to younger Glenlivet expressions. Truly batch produced with the batch number recorded at the foot of the label – so expect slight variations between batches.
Our 21 Year Old Archive has over two decades of distilling expertise in every bottle. A variety of casks complete the flavor, with a noticeable sherry influence. Each cask is nosed and approved by Master Distiller Alan Winchester, and every batch is unique with subtle differences from those that came before and those still to follow.
Rich, luxurious aroma of pine, raisins and sandalwood.
Notes of brown sugar, walnuts and honey on the palate, that are well-complemented by notes of dried fruits, Christmas cake and baking spices.
Finish is long and sweet, with a hint of chewy leather, ginger and oak.
