Finlaggan Old Reserve Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750 Ml
Finlaggan Old Reserve single malt is named after Finlaggan Castle, the seat of the feudal lord of the Isles in the loch of the same name found in the north of Islay. Finlaggan is a mystery malt and the identity of the producing distillery is, as you’d expect, jealously guarded by the brand owners, The Vintage Malt Whisky.
Earthy smoky peat and salty ocean breeze on the nose. Pungent peat smoke, chewy sweet malt, pepper, tar, and a touch of iodine on the palate. Long and warming. Smoky ashes of the peat fire finish. Vintage malt was founded in 1992 by brian crook, after many years’ in the whisky industry as an export director for one of Scotland’s best-known distillers.
His aim was to produce a range of malt whiskies from his country’s finest distilleries and make them available to independent wine and spirit importers throughout the world. The company’s award-winning brands include finlaggan and the ileach, two single malts from the island of Islay on the west coast of Scotland, and the cooper’s choice, a superb range of single cask bottlings.
The source of Finlaggan has remained a very closely guarded secret. To tell the true origin of Old Reserve you’ll simply have to taste it and find out!
Finlaggan Old Reserve is very much the Secret Islay, as the name of the distillery from which it comes is a closely guarded secret and known to only a select few. Only those who have sampled Islay malts over a long period and who are familiar with the subtle differences of nose and taste could begin to guess at the pedigree of this true son of Islay.
Slightly medicinal nose with hints of peanut, sticking plasters, manuka honey, and digestive biscuits.
Sweet cereals, barley malt, a little peat smoke, TCP, nutmeg, and ginger.
A long, sweet finish with toasty oak and peppermint.
