Dewar’s Double Double 21-Year-Old is finished in Oloroso sherry casks. This blend delivers subtle notes of cinnamon and ripe vine fruits with a silky smooth finish.

Innovation comes in many forms, and in 2019 our Master Blender, Stephanie Macleod, released a new range of Blended Scotch Whiskies with a Four-Stage Ageing Process for Ultimate Smoothness. This may sound like an indulgence but the series has been picking up gold medal awards. The world over since being released.

We believe that in order to do things right and get the best results you should put in double the effort. So we asked ourselves how we could put in double the effort to our range that was already Double Aged for Extra Smoothness and it was obvious double it!

Our Double Double Series has been aged, blended together, aged again, then finished in sherry casks for the Ultimate Smoothness.

The 21 finished in a cask that previously held Oloroso sherry. Notes of honey, along with some ripe apple and hints of golden raisin, stone, and tropical fruit, along with a little bit of licorice and spice notes of cinnamon, pepper, and nutmeg.

Master blender Stephanie Macleod’s innovative blend was inspired by Dewar’s famous double aging process. She separately blended parcels of aged malt and grain whisky, left each to marry, then blended them together to marry again, before finishing in oloroso sherry casks.

A tantalizing nose of chocolate, caramel, vanilla, crystallized orange slice, fresh plum, black cherry, and moist coffee grounds. Smooth flavors of chocolate-dipped raspberries, gingersnaps, and bold sherry fruit yield to a finish of smoke and spice.

Nose:

Simmering sticky oatmeal drizzles with red wine beef jus reduction, slices of banana on top, and a dash of brown sugar. Curious scents of rubbery at the tail. Grain dressed in an oversized brown coat, but I do like the lightly savory beef jus part.

Taste:

Wish it is as beefy and savory, but it wasn’t as the sweet sherry and leathery notes swamp over. Grain drifts with heavily charred orange peel and bitter chocolate rising. Oak spices reaching the nose with underlying dryness.

Finish:

Medium, smoothness that has to be credited. Get dryer and chewy with tingling spiciness to tease. Scents of dark rum, oak-driven. Good for after dinner, not for summer.
