The store’s owner, David Nicholson 1843, created the famed ‘43’ bourbon recipe. Little did he know that his recipe would be passed on and passed down, remaining unaltered for almost two centuries.

An old name in bourbon, David Nicholson 1843 was originally developed for a grocer in St Louis back in the 1840s. However, these days the name is attached to this rye-forward, 100-proof release from the folks behind Yellowstone and Blood Oath. It’s got a nice hit of rye spice, but doesn’t jump wholly on the rye train, with a soft and sweet classic bourbon character behind.

Nose:

Toffee pennies, oak warmth and a nod towards freshly chopped herbs.

Palate:

Continued caramel sweetness, a little menthol and a good whack of cinnamon.

Finish:

Cinnamon spice and oak lasts.
