The spirit of this single malt Scotch whisky was sourced from Caol Ila Distillery before Gordon and MacPhail matured it in its own casks for its new introductory range, Discovery. It was aged for a total of 13 years before being bottled at 43% ABV.
In an effort to modernize, the 122-year-old company Gordon & MacPhail overhauled all its ranges in April 2018. Its new Discovery range emphasises taste profiles over distillery provenance, and this 13 year old Caol Ila is meant to showcase Islay’s smoky flavors.

The Gordon & MacPhail Discovery range examines the core flavours at the heart of Scotch single malt whisky, and this is the headline of the Smoky side of things. A 13-year-old Caol Ila from the island of Islay, this is as typical a dram as you can get from the island, packed with sweet fruit and dark peat smoke.
AROMA:
Sweet and savoury: dry-cured meats glazed with luscious apricot jam combines with rich vanilla notes. Flashes of softly swirling peat smoke complement the delicious sweetness.
TASTE:
Bursting with juicy tropical fruit – pineapple, kiwi, and banana – brushed softly with icing sugar. Light touches of malt and vibrant lemon peel balance the sweetness.
FINISH:
Long and luxurious with hints of sweet marshmallow toasting over gently smouldering bonfire embers.
