Botran Solera 1893 Aged 18 Years Guatemalan Rum
A superb luxury Guatemalan rum. Botran’s rums are aged in a solera system high up in the mountains, and the solera is fed with a proportion of rums aged in sherry and port casks as well as ex-bourbon. The rums used for Botran Solera 1893 are made with virgin sugar cane honey and are matured for between 5 and 18 years before going into the solera. A rich, warming Guatemalan rum from the Ron Botran selection. Sitting at the top of their range, this features rum aged up to 18 years in a Solera system with American oak, Sherry and Port casks.
Named in honour of the birth year of the first Botran distilling family member, this is a blend of rums between 5 and 18 years-old, aged through a modified solera process employing several types of casks, including exbourbon, re-charred American oak and ex-sherry.
Produced in a “solera” comprised of rums up to 18 years of age, Ron Botran 18 Añejo was matured in a combination of American white oak barrels, ex-sherry, and ex-port casks. The Botran Family gained notoriety as sugarcane growers before their foray into the rum business.
Botran Solera 1893 is lush, decadent and hedonistic. It smells of ripe banana, caramel, dates, and shortbread cookies along with a slight vegetal note. Pure dessert on the palate with crème brûlée, and ripe fruits such as banana, peach, and pineapple. Dried leather is found as well. The mid-palate is fun and seductive while the finish is sweet and seems to linger endlessly. A must have for those who like sweeter styles of rum.
Dried fruit and crushed nuts covered in honey.
Developing coffee bean notes with continued raisin and caramel.
Citrus sweetness lasts.
