Balcones Texas Single Malt Whisky Special Release 106 Proof
A timeless style of malt whisky, Balcones “1” Texas Single Malt breathes new life into centuries of distilling tradition with classic techniques and ingredients adapted for New World tastes. Opening aromas bear hints of toffee and overripe fruits. On the palate, layers of toasted malt and honey give way to mellow notes of baked pears and apples. A long finish is accompanied by cinnamon and cloves. Texas made, Texas proud, we hope you enjoy the whisky we owe our success to as much as we enjoy making it.
“Warm boiled grains are inviting and comforting aromas. In the mouth it is silken, with corn and wheat flavors shining through, cinnamon spice and mild cedar. The flavors turn roasted with charred wood and caramelized grains at the end.
Balcones Distillery began distilling in 2009 in Waco, TX and today produces quite a few different spirits. Today’s review is of Balcones Texas Single Malt Whisky, which is bottled at 106 Proof after being aged “at least 22 months” in oak. Today, Balcones is producing several types of spirits, however, they say that Single Malts are the drive and passion behind the brand.
A very interesting single malt American whisky from Texas, this was distilled at Balcones and was “yard-aged” in ex-bourbon American oak before bottling. Expect huge flavours from this one.
Freshly baked banana bread with undertones of honey and vanilla and just the faintest hint of cedar wood at the back. Suggestions of roasted chestnuts and heavy cream.
Ester-y with apple and orchard fruits. Brown sugar makes an appearance and transforms into molasses.
Warm, woody spices and some breadiness, but not necessarily maltiness, completes this luscious single malt.
