Aberlour Double Cask Whisky is Matured in two types of casks, the traditional oak, and sherry oak casks, and bottled at a slightly lower abv of 40% than previous editions, this 16-year-old Aberlour is bursting with lush plum, raisin, and even floral notes. A cracking Speyside malt. Expression’s warm fruity notes are enriched by an engagingly spicy sweetness. Some honey and sherry come to the fore, dignified entry into the mouth with fine texture and good balance. Butterscotch comes back into focus while some fine oak shows itself.
Color: Golden amber
Nose: A confection of marzipan and the alluring fragrance of geraniums, with hints of sherry and orange blossom, and a light smokiness
Palate: Soft and spicy with a lightly toasted oaky flavor, overlaid with a sherry-sweet nuttiness mixed with ripe apricots and toffee that shamelessly seduces the palate
Finish: Gentle and mellow, with a distinct spiciness and subtle hints of mint
The bouquet is austere and leathery with curious aromas of beeswax, vegetable oil, and oaky resin. Palate entry is focused on the resin; midpalate is splendidly multilayered and offers elements of black pepper, dried orange blossom, honeysuckle, dried fruit, sage, fennel, and confections. The aftertaste is deep and unabashedly sweet and honeyed.
