Our cognac cask finished belle meade bourbon is the result of painstaking attention to detail to create a product of unmistakable quality and character. The search ended when we found a selection of casks made of french limousin oak that had been used for 12 years to age one of the world’s premier fine champagne xo cognacs.
Nose:
Honeysuckle, brown sugar, caramel, with a whiff of high-proof alcohol. This actually smells like a 100+ proof whiskey not overwhelming, but still surprising to get so much alcohol on the nose.
Palate:
The high rye content of this bourbon provides a chewy, umami quality, which I adore, and the blend and cognac aging supplies a fruity sweetness. It kind of sparkles.
Finish:
Long finish mimicking the palate with notes of toasted cedar and hints of allspice.
Jefferson’s Reserve Bourbon
We first reviewed Jefferson’s Reserve Bourbon seven long years ago, and it’s high time for a revisit. As far as we can tell from the packaging, this “Very Old, Very Small Batch” bourbon remains unchanged, but since the father and son owners, Chet and Trey Zoeller, have always been upfront about the fact that they source whiskeys for their different products, there’s a good chance this one has been tweaked a bit over the years.
Nose:
The nose opens with sweet deep caramel, vanilla, grassy rye spice, a touch of dark fruits, and slight alcohol burn.
Palate:
An Elegant Combination Of Flavors, A Very Thick Body, Almost Syrupy Sweetness. Suggesting Vanilla And Caramel, Yet Very Fruity With Hints Of Dates, Blackberry And Orange.
Finish:
The finish is long and warming with sweet oranges dipped in caramel and sprinkled in white pepper. Followed by an aftertaste of minty old barrels and citrus peels.
Blantons Single Barrel Bourbon 700 ml blanton
Blanton’s Original Single Barrel bourbon is a brilliant whiskey from the Buffalo Trace stable. Each one is drawn from a single cask that slumbered in the legendary Warehouse, and bottled at 46.5% ABV. This wonderful whiskey was drawn from barrel #101.
Nose:
A creamy vanilla nose features hints of orange peel, nutmeg, caramel, and light spices.
Palate:
A soft but rich flavor of burnt sugar, cloves in harmony with strong caramel and corn sensations.
Finish:
A strong and lasting finish that brings back nutmeg and corn above everything else.
